This picture is recent, but I walked down the middle of the Lincoln ave in 1968 as school was closed and so was Chicago due to 2 feet of snow. Loved it. St Hilarys catholic school at California and Bryn Maur. BUT, I remember playing a game on the front steps of the apartment we lived at. The game involved a rubber ball, nice front steps and a walk way leading to the street. The game was called PINNERS! ever heard of it. The batter would throw the ball at the steps and letting it bounce to the sidewalk where the fielder would catch or not. What a great memory,, playing with neighbors and family members. If you threw it off the corner of the curb or step it would fly into the street for a homerun. And of course Jakes pizza, Italian Beefs and Cubs. and going downtown instead of school and eating at Woolworths and going up in the Prudential Building, this was pre Sears Tower. Well, hope you enjoyed the walk down State street from the North side.
