A moment in Istanbul at the Four Seasons Sultanahmet
My travel photo of the day is an image of the facade of the Four Seasons Istanbul at Sultanahmet in Turkey. I visited this exotic and ancient city and had the pleasure of staying at this historic property.
I chose this picture to share because it shows not only the beautiful facade, but the smiling doormen of the hotel, a happy memory from my Istanbul adventure. Each day after exploring the city, they were the ones to greet me on the way into the hotel. And I have great memories of the Four Seasons, it's an amazing luxury property in the heart of Sultanahmet, the historic core of ancient Istanbul. A former prison, the property has been transformed into a luxurious, almost boutique-like oasis only steps from historic sites like the Blue Mosque and Topkapi Palace. Some rooms (including mine) even have views of the Hagia Sophia.
It's funny, as a travel photographer, I sometimes want the perfectly framed, symmetrical shot of a building. I have another picture I took a few moments later, without the smiling doormen, that doesn't have the roof of the hotel cut off. But I have such happy memories of those moments returning to the hotel each night, talking to these guys about my adventures, I felt this image was a better representation of those memories than a perfect one of the facade itself. To me travel is about moments and this photo captures one of those moments.
I took this photo in November, 2013 with a Sony Action Cam HDR-AS15.
