    Your 'Aha' weight-loss moments

    Fat Boy Runs

My "Ah-Ha" moment was overhearing a girl I was interested in tell a friend, "He would be much cuter if he lost weight". I had never been the "fit kid". I spent my high school days behind a computer which, while serving me well later in life as a career, did nothing for me on the active lifestyle side. At 38 years old I was ready for a change. In sixth grade I tried out for Cross Country at the urging of a friend. I hated it and I did poorly with running long distance or running at all for that matter. Last year a few friends started urging me to run. I came up with all the excuses; "knees can't handle it", "I don't like running", "I only run when chased!". They continued and I caved. I read many stories, mostly here on CNN about people who had begun running and lost weight quickly. I have always been naturally muscular but not toned. I got fitted for shoes, bought some running gear and gave it a try in January 2013. My first run was terrible but I persevered. I began a blog,, to chronicle my running and help others along the way. At nearly 300 lbs, I felt every run. After the first week I developed shin splints so painful I couldn't walk. As time persisted, things got easier. I completed the C25K regimen after 8 weeks. I had lost about 35 lbs. In 8 weeks. I couldn't believe it. The weight was pouring off. I continued to run, mostly staying around the 5k mark. I signed up for races and pushed myself to go further, never worrying about how long it took. Currently I weigh about 220 and I run about 60 miles a month. I am training for my first half marathon. I encourage anyone who wants to lose weight to check out my website, There is no advertising, no fee's, nothing for sale, it is simply a blog and proof that ANYONE can get into the shape they want.
