Family of 10 escape burning home.
This family of 10 with 8 adopted children from 4 to 18 years old escaped with their lives at 4:00 Wed. Morning but list their home and all their possessions. They spent there afternoon in Walmart with the children in pajamas and bare feet getting basic cloths and shoes before retiring to two motel rooms furnished by Redcross. When they all went to the suv as they had many times in fire drills, Amber , the 18 year old looked around and screamed "where's Mattie?" Amber, their mother Ann and Father Kevin ran back to the house and could hear Mattie screaming. Kevin could not get in for smoke and heat. He shined flashlight in and they all shouted for Mattie to come to them. She ran out and they swooped her up and got her away from the house thankful she was unharmed . Later in the hotel when settled, they saw a bluster on top of her left ear and it hit home just what a close call this was. The high winds may have snapped a power line as they heard a loud boom and the electricity went off. The fire started outside and Josie, the 9 year old screamed "Mamma the door is on fire".
My husband and I love this family that came into our lives about 3 years ago. We but birthday presents for the kids and we take them places they might not get to experience otherwise . The kids spend the night with us or go on outings with us in smaller groups although twice we have had all 8 of them in our home. We had just bought new dresses for two of the girls and slacks for one of the boys to wear to the Dallas symphony with us, those burned up too. And my husband bought a second hand piano to go in their home as he was going to give some if the children piano lessons and they would need to practice at home. We had not delivered the piano to them yet, it is still in our hallway. But we have our limits and are overwhelmed now and need help to get this family back into a home and back on their feet. There home was near Corsicana, Texas in Navarro County. They are a wonderful and diverse family, and those kids will steal your heart in a second. What can we do to help them rebuild their lives?
