Salute to families
My Big Sister
I remember seeing pictures of my sister in uniform - first her nursing uniform, then her Army uniform. There were so many years I didn't see her, while she served in Japan, but I knew she was doing something special. Still a nurse. She sent me books with beautiful inscriptions in them - ones that I have to this day.
I met her again - almost for the first time - when I was 15, in 1977 and stayed with her for a few months. Her and her soldier husband had divorced by then. She seemed amazingly whole to me. I had a brief glimpse into her Army days through her pictures and I was in awe of her. She saved my life back then and her love and support continue to save me... just as she had done or tried to do for all the soldiers whose bodies and spirits were broken.
