Benefits of Studying in Hong Kong

Marita Peterson is a student at Alverno College currently studying abroad in Hong Kong.

"I thought being in Hong Kong might be a little tough due to the cultural differences, but I have been completely overwhelmed by the community here. Partly due to Lingnan University, partly due to my own determination to do as many things as possible, my determination to integrate into the community as much as possible, and partly due to previous connections with exchange students studying at Alverno College. Studying abroad is like school: you get what you put in. It's also an amazing learning experience, even the constantly getting lost and wandering around until I find my way back home.

It's like I have been waiting my whole life for this moment. I've always been a dreamer and always knew that I wanted to explore the world, see the differences and find joy in them. I was determined to make it to Hong Kong no matter what, and taking loans out has already been worth it, even though I've only been here a month. I have never felt so at home as I do in Hong Kong. The friends I've made before have been so incredibly generous and have taken care of me so well. It's just proof that if you do your best to help others and selflessly try to provide them with a great experience, when you visit them you will reap the benefits ten-fold.

I've made amazing friends already, from all over the world. They hang out with me and take me to places only locals know about or invite me to  stay in their homes when I travel to their country."
