Question for First Lady Obama on Older Students Studying Abroad

Here in our military community, my story is like many others...finding myself at 40 years old, back in college to complete degrees needed for desired fields.
My situation causes a bit of apprehension on studying abroad because my children and I lost our soldier, my husband to the war in Iraq in 2004.
2 daughters in college, and my son finishing up high school next year, my question for First Lady Obama is in regards to being an older student and how wise would it be to make the decision at this point to study abroad? And if my children make the same choice, should there be any concerns of safety while studying so far away?
