Celebrating Life: Fr. Tritz
In 1974, Fr. Pierre T. Tritz, SJ, founded an organization that supports the education of Filipino children in Manila. He was 60 then.
Like me, that organization – the Educational Research Development Assistance Foundation – is also 40 years old.
This year, Fr. Tritz is turning 100.
Fr. Tritz is my “boss.” He is a priest. He is a French national. He is a naturalized Filipino citizen.
He is physically healthy, and comes to ERDA almost every day. I had long wanted to ask him about his struggles and triumphs; about things that touched his heart; about his family, friends and mentors. But his memory isn’t that strong anymore.
But what’s important is that Fr. Tritz hasn’t forgotten his main advocacy. His favorite mantra is: ``you give children education, you give them hope.’’
I am celebrating my life by celebrating the lives of others like Fr. Tritz who has strived to make people’s lives better.
