This iReport is part of an assignment:
    Life in China

How to access blocked websites in China

Been living in China for a while now. It has it's good and bad, as every country has. I personally like the food, the people, and the wild nature, far away from big cities.

One thing I never could live with was the internet censorship. This made no sense to me, why should I be restricted to access my favorite websites? They're certainly not blocked in the US.

Early on my stay here I shared my frustration with a work colleague. He said, oh, you don't have a proxy or a VPN account? It turns out most people use proxies, they don't cost, but he didn't recommend them - not secure he said.

What he did recommend was getting a VPN account - he used Happy VPN so I started using Happy VPN as well.
It does cost, but not much and I pay it once per year now.

The benefits of accessing all those blocked websites truly is making it worthwhile.

Now that I'm new to CNN, this is the first thing I'd like to share to all newcomers in China - get a VPN account to access blocked websites. As I said, I have an account Happy VPN, but there a lot of other VPN providers which have plans for people in China.

As we say, sit back and enjoy the ride! China is quite an experience, once you know how to get past inconveniences such as blocked websites.
