    Protesters occupy Taiwan legislature

Parliament occupied in Taiwan over the unfair China trade deal

It has been 22 hours since students and activists who strongly opposed to an unfair cross-strait trade agreement with China burst into the Legislative Yuan and occupied it in request for halting the agreement and thwarting government's effort to ratify it.

The whole process was not even transparent and legitimate which aroused public rage around Taiwan. One of the legislator, Ching- Chong Chang, declared the pass of the resolution in only thirty seconds which was considered "black-box operation". In other words, the agreement wasn't reviewed issue by issue. The trade pact must not be approved without careful deliberation and scrutiny in parliament. Over 70 percent of citizens in Taiwan strictly condemn the government for violating democratic process and neglecting voices of its citizens.

Protesters outside and inside the parliament all called for democracy and even gave speeches of vulnerabilities of ratifying this agreement. So far, legislators, scholars, students who opposed it have rushed to the legislative yuan to support those brave students who are still in confrontation with the government.

This incident is not merely a normal demonstration. Instead, it is a major breakthrough in Taiwan's democracy history and also a meaningful milestone. What Taiwanese people want is not a corrupted government but real democracy of having rights to oppose unfair trade agreement. The pounding gravel belongs to all citizens.
