Pope Francis Wednesday Audience
March 19, 2014, Vatican City. It is Father’s Day in Italy. Pope Francis on Wednesday celebrated the Feast of St. Joseph, patron saint of carpenters, the poor and the orphans. He is also a model for all fathers, educators and the ‘guardian’ of the Holy Family, as he told the crowds who gathered in St. Peter’s Square for the General Audience.
The pope offered a special prayer for all the fathers gathered and sent special greetings to all the fathers of the world, thanking them for what they do for their children.
A year ago, Pope Francis celebrated his inauguration mass after his election as the Bishop of Rome and Roman Pontiff.
I was lost in the middle of the crowd. The people’s pope could hardly be seen from where I stood. He became invisible with such great crowds. But look at the cameras, smartphones, and whatever means people have to capture his image. Not only was he being captured by their attentions but through these images, they take him to their homes. He becomes even more visible outside St. Peter’s Square. Pope Francis has not failed to capture their imagination including mine.
