This iReport is part of an assignment:
Malaysia Airlines Flight 370
Flight 370 -- It's a boat.
This is in reference to an earlier posting that had a number of comments. Some felt it was a whale, or perhaps part of a wing. I decided to illustrate my point about it being a fishing boat.
Can you see the local fishing boat, in the picture ? I outlined the hull in red, and to the waterline on its starboard side. Realize that the satellite camera angle is not directly overhead. This slight angle helps add more "depth" to the picture, with only a small loss in resolution. I also outlined the superstructure, in black. Also keep in mind the amount of turbulence around an object being observed in a calm sea. It's the boat's wake you are seeing because it is underway/powered. If it were a sailboat, there'd be little "frothiness" to the wake. Ditto for a whale, i.e. it's "wake" which would be mostly underwater, would not even be detectable at this resolution.
