Thai "popcorn" assailant admits being paid by PDRC

Alleged ‘popcorn’ gunman Vivat Yodprasit is taken before the media at the Narcotics Suppression Bureau yesterday. The suspect, who confessed to having worked as a security guard for the anti-government People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC), was arrested in Surat Thani’s Muang district on Wednesday.

On many occasions, the PDRC chief, Mr. Suthep Thaugsuban, has denied that his neo-fascist movement is violent despite the daily attacks and intimidation caused by his hired "guards" in Bangkok. The public has branded them as thugs.

Mr. Suthep was a former deputy prime minister under the Abhisit "Democrat Party" regime, and he has avoided facing the criminal court on the chargers of mass murder for the Bangkok crackdown of 2010.
