Staying prepared for a possible accident

Even though we do our best to prevent them from happening, auto accidents are still a part of life. Knowing the proper steps to take after getting into an accident can help make the process go as smoothly as possible. The Automobile Club of Southern California has the steps you should take right after you get into an accident before you file a claim and begin the repair process.

The first thing to do is to check if anyone is injured, and call emergency services. Make sure that your vehicle is in a safe location if possible and take down the license plate number, contact and insurance information of those involved. If you have a camera or phone, take photos of the scene and if possible make a sketch of how the accident happened. Be sure to only discuss the accident with the police and not others involved.

You will then work with your insurance agent and file a claim. Depending on the severity of the accident, you and your agent will work to find a repair location that works best for you. If you are located in Carlsbad or anywhere in the North County San Diego area, http://www.weselohkiacarlsbad.com/collision/Auto-Collision-Repair/Carlsbad can help with full service auto body and other collision services.

Then your agent will need to gather facts to determine responsibility, arrange repairs and towing services if needed, and figure out rental car information if that is included in your policy. If you follow these steps, you should be able to get your car back in its prior condition, with little headache.
