    INDIA: Perfect Imperfections

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     MaxLewis shot these photos around India in 2012. The first photo is his favorite: 'The photo reminds me of the intensity of life in Varanasi, yet the aesthetics display a calm, spiritual and tranquil environment.' His last image was featured as CNN's Travel Photo of the Day for November 26, 2014.

India is a beautiful contradiction where the true nature of its attraction lies in its explicit imperfections; the intolerably polluted streets, the overcrowded trains, the fly-infested restaurants, the dirty street-food stalls, the labyrinth of dirty lanes, over-populated yet atmospheric, the odd addition of bulls in a market and vast, endless slums.

Then there are India's enviable characteristics; The vast amount of natural beauty, the tranquil lakes set among serene backdrops, the impeccable backwaters of Kerala, the awe-inspiring nature of the Ganges River along with many, many more. it is here where you begin to think just what an incredible nation India is and just why its attractions are so inconceivably alluring.

These pictures barely scratch the surface of India's contradicting beauty but hopefully they inspire you to travel to one of the greatest backpacker destinations in the world.
