    The lions of Copenhagen Zoo

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     CNN cannot confirm whether these lions were among the four euthanized by the Copenhagen Zoo on March 24.
    - rachel8, CNN iReport producer

The lions of the Copenhagen Zoo, much debated these days, because four of them have been euthanized to ensure a genetically healthy population for years to come with the introduction of a new young male lion.

The reason for getting a new male lion is that the two young female lions have become sexually mature, and the old male lion, their own father, had started to take an interest in them for mating.

The two cubs would have been killed by the new male lion and because they where to young to fend for themselves, the old female lion would have tried to kill him to protect them.

The Copenhagen Zoo had tried to find another suitable place for the cubs to live within EAZA, a collaboration with over 300 Zoo's across Europe, without luck.
