Senator Leland Yee Charged in Gun Trafficking Scandal

In an ironic twist, Senator Leland Yee was arrested on Wednesday and today charged with arms trafficking and conspiring to commit wire fraud. The FBI arrested a total of 26 people; all connected to the arms trafficking scheme which included a well-known Chinese criminal by the name of Raymond Chow. Mr. Chow is connected to the Wo Hop To gang.

Former school board president and political consultant Keith Jackson was arrested for arms trafficking. Both Senator Leland Yee and Keith Jackson were also arrested for defrauding the citizens of California of their rights for honest services.

Senator Leland Yee is known for co-authoring the micro-stamping bill for semi-automatic firearms for ballistic information, and he was honored by the Brady Campaign for his role in gun violence prevention. While Senator Yee was receiving honors, he was selling firearms illegally to those who may be contributing to actual firearms crimes.

Mr. Keith Jackson helped raise funds for Senator Yee's campaign in 2011, and being in campaign debt, Senator Yee accepted a donation over the $500 individual limit from an undercover FBI agent. Senator Yee then turned to the same informant for additional funds to retire his debt to run for Secretary of State in exchange for certain official acts of his political position.

One of those acts had been for Senator Yee to introduce the undercover agent to state legislators who had influence over the pending and proposed medical marijuana legislation which the agent stated that they had significant business interest in. Another act had been to meet with an arms dealer that Mr. Jackson and Senator Yee knew in exchange for campaign funds.
