    Small Green Eco Homes

The average American home is over 2,300 square feet, well more than double the average in 1950. The average American household has nearly half the members of the average in 1950. So less folks are living in more space.

Given these trends, more and more architects and builders are recognizing that small homes can not only be far more efficient and sustainable, but also beautiful.

As an example, there are modular cabins which are delivered prebuilt to the site and use energy efficient construction and sustainable materials. For instance, Amish Cabin Company at www.amishcabincompany.com markets Amish-built modular cabins that are delivered prebuilt and placed on permanent foundations as deeded property.

Energy efficient 3Ht insulation and energy star rated insulated windows are used in such cabins. They offer cabin models up to 14'x40' in size and can combine two cabins together for up to 1,100 square feet on ground floor and up to another 500 square feet in sleeping and storage lofts. They offer solar power packages for their cabins as well. The cabins are constructed of sustainable eastern white pine.

By using energy efficient appliances and tankless/on demand water heaters, the cabins' prewired 200 amp service consumes minimum power.

Small home construction can indeed be beautiful and efficient.
