    Travel photo of the day

    Alaskan Salmonberries

This photo was taken in July 2013 when we went on a cruise to Alaska. On a fine morning the ship docked at Ketchikan. The day was overcast, but it was not too cold.
Once we disembarked we took a tour with a small group of people to go around and experience the Alaskan wilderness. On our way to see spawning salmon, eagles and bears we stopped in the wilderness where our driver showed us Alaskan Salmonberry bushes. It was a great delight to find the shrubs out in the wild, and pick and relish fresh berries.
It was a lucky day for us – nice weather, lots of salmonberries, and not only were we able to see spawning salmon, but we were also lucky to spot both eagles and bears.
