    EARTH HOUR BERLIN 2014

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     redmondredd, a freelance photographer, took these photos during Berlin's observation of Earth Hour on Saturday, March 29. "The Germans are very environmentally-conscious people," he said. "I think it is important for cities to participate in the Earth Hour to educate its citizens about conserving our environment and natural resources."
    - Verybecoming, CNN iReport producer

Earth Hour took place in several locations in Berlin, including the famous German landmark, the Brandenburg Gate. Earth Hour is organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature to place emphasis on the importance of saving energy and preserving our environment. What first started in 2007 in Sydney, Australia, has now grown worldwide that it is participated this year by more than 7,000 cities in 154 countries. In Germany, 150 cities took part where famous buildings and landmarks were darkened for one hour. At exactly 8:30 p.m., the lights went out at the Brandenburg Gate while WWF volunteers and a band provided performance and music. Earth Hour is an international movement for the planet to remind us that we have only one earth and we need to preserve it. This year's event very clearly sent that message across!
