PRESS RELEASE: SPECIAL SUMMIT OF NORTHERN YOUTH AND STUDENT LEADERS

We wish to extend our sincere solidarity to all youths in their very difficult but patriotic struggle in defense of truth and accountability in Nigeria. We find in them the greatest inspiration for moving Nigeria forward.

As one of the major and credible youth organizations in Northern Nigeria, we feel duty bound to organize a forum of 400 delegates comprising Northern youth and student leaders where vocal promoters of accountable leadership can deliberate on the future of northern Nigeria.

Youths in Northern Nigeria are falling deep into a horrible situation, their future is uncertain, they have been abandoned to their fate, they are politically exploited, economically despondent and easy targets of violence. Many of them are in prisons; some are hired mercenaries of selfish politicians. The confused ones among them have resorted to hard drugs.

With a future so dark, with a hope so dim and with direction almost completely lost, we have no choice but to urgently create the opportunity and platform for discussing their fate in a Federation that is full of insensitive leaders at the three tiers of government. It is now time to talk frankly and honestly about the causes and effect of the clear and present danger as well as the way out.

It is regrettable that while the younger generation everywhere in the world have articulated a viable path to safeguard their future, the youth of northern Nigeria have for too long remained scattered, disorganized and dangerously unfocused.

The summit will help develop blueprints on proactive measures to be taken towards reclaiming the lost ideals of northern Nigeria.

    Date: Wednesday 2nd & Thursday 3rd April 2014.
    Venue: Hamdala Hotel, Kaduna.

    Signed, Sani Darma.
