Ex-College Dropout Travels To The Prestigious Harvard University
Back in Miami during the year 2008 I dropped out of college because I couldn't balance my social life and business life on campus. I dropped out of school and couldn't land a job for nearly 8 months. It wasn't until a college basketball coach heard I was out of school and tried to recruit me that I found hope once again. The hope I found was at Florida Memorial University. You see, I didn't have a clue about what would lie ahead of me in the process of going to my new school. Little did I know I was in for a big surprise.
As soon as I arrived at this new school I felt that I had the opportunity to grow by focusing more on the business and academic life rather than social life. I began to study harder, longer, and more effectively. I started going to the library early, and I started leaving the library late. There would be weeks straight where I would find myself the last person coming out of the library with the closing staff. I would study and keep myself surrounded by people who also studied all the time. Eventually my studying paid off because I started to make the honor roll and receive awards and scholarships for getting good grades.
But on the basketball court I was still having issues you see. My first year I'd gotten hurt, and completely tore my left ankle during a pre-season scrimmage. I was then forced to sit out the entire year. The next year had come around and I was now ready to have a great year. Following the second game I was suspended for an entire year and now forced to sit out again. I found myself angry and disappointed at how far I'd come and how much basketball I was missing.
This then led me to a journey of personal development, and sharpening of my personal leadership skills. I began to improve my work ethic, and the duration of mental focus. I accomplished these things off the court as I started to read and train my mind more than ever before. The following year came around and I focused on that 2012 - 2013 basketball season like nothing else mattered. By the time the end of the season rolled around, I had made the First Team All-Conference, All Defensive Team, MVP, Defensive player of the year, and I was named the Athlete of the year by the student government association. I had done it, and I couldn't believe where I'd come from in order to reach this moment of success in my basketball career.
Then following that last season I decided to travel abroad and study Mandarin in Beijing, China. During my trip my whole life changed once again before my eyes. What happened in China was incredible and the awesome thing is that I have it all inside of my book #theuntoldsecretstosuccess.
