    HOMEMADE GRANOLA

I love granola as a cold cereal as well as on oatmeal, yogurt, and even ice cream. The only problem is, processed granola can be expensive and can have additives you do not want. I remember making my own homemade granola with my mom when I was in grade school, so I attempted to create the perfect homemade granola recipe this morning.

Start with two or three cups of steel cut oats. I normally eyeball my measurements and add other ingredients to create the desired consistency. You can add any other type of dry ingredients such as wheat germ (gluten), coconut, flax seed, almonds, mixed nuts, etc. I ground about a cup of almonds and added it to the mixture as well as ground flax seed. I mixed all my dry ingredients together and added my wet ingredients. You can add as little or as much sweeteners according to your own taste. I personally used a little honey, about a ½ cup of maple syrup and another ½ cup of brown sugar. Next time I am going to try molasses for a little stronger taste. Add a little olive oil or coconut oil to congeal the ingredients and add a little water to finish mixing all the ingredients together.

Bake in the oven for about an hour and a half at a low temperature. Once it cools, add in dried fruit such as dates, pineapple, cranberries, banana chips, and raisins. Enjoy.
