Twin Aircraft Carriers in Hell's Kitchen NYC
Saturday mornings in the City are often left to recovering from Friday night or are missed altogether while catching up on the sleep deficit from the week. Sometimes, however, the accidental early riser gets rewarded.
This morning, just a little over a week after she returned home to Pier 86, the USS Intrepid received her first military visitor: the USS Nassau, a Tarawa-class amphibious assault ship. Just before 8AM, the Nassau could be seen moving slowly up the Hudson in the bright fall morning sunshine, her fine crew of US Sailors and Marines resplendent in uniform lining her decks and with several of the aircraft aboard proudly on display (including a V-22 Osprey, an AV-8B Harrier, and various rotary-wing craft). So, even though they might not be "twins" per se, I am sure the Intrepid will be glad for the company!
So, here's a big welcome to the Nassau and her crew -- I hope you enjoy your Columbus Day weekend in NYC!!!
