MTV Spring Break Heats Up Cancun

MTV hosted their Spring Break 2014 events at the beachfront, all-inclusive Oasis Cancun Resort in Cancun, Mexico from March 19th to March 25th. Hundreds of college-aged students gathered to the Spring-Break themed programming, which included celebrity appearances and exclusive performances. The giant weeklong party also included pool parties, popular DJs, and contests usually involving consuming alcohol.

The colorful MTV stage was placed on the white sandy beach with the Caribbean Sea in the background so the swimsuit-clad audience could enjoy the beautiful sight of the turquoise water under the hot sun while they participated in the events held by MTV.

One of the most popular events was a performance by international R&B artist Trey Songz. He performed his own hit songs “Na Na”, “Say Ahh”, and others to the wild audience. During the concert many bikini wearing young women would climb on others’ shoulders to get a better view at the shirtless superstar artist. Throughout the concert large colorful beach balls were crowd surfing the hundreds of people and beer was being sprayed from onstage onto the audience.

Many cameras around the stage were capturing live film of what MTV aimed to depict the “ultimate Spring Break experience”. MTV’s techniques at portraying their idea of a college Spring Break in Cancun included allowing the attractive students with drinks in their hands to appear on camera more often. Also, the people that were singing and dancing were allowed to move to the front towards the stage to appear on camera more often. The audience was positioned so that all the people were compact inside set up gates, so on camera it appeared to be extremely crowded by the viewpoint that was taken. When volunteers were chosen to participate in the contests, they were first taken behind stage to be interviewed to make sure they were an appropriate choice for the activity they were partaking in.

Because many of the young adults staying at the Oasis Resort were entitled unlimited food and drinks, over intoxication was a potential problem for the MTV security crew. MTV provided many security guards staggered around the gates of the audience who were ready to intervene at the sight of someone who was too intoxicated or any other problem that was incurred.

The filming that occurred of the MTV Spring Break 2014 events at the Oasis Resort in Cancun, Mexico aired on MTV series on April 3rd and April 4th.
