Cupcake Wedding Cakes Versus Traditional Wedding Cakes

Designer Cakes of London owner, Elaine Rhule, says that in recent years the traditional wedding cake has fallen behind in the popularity stakes, at least as far as her own business orders reflect. Elaine claims that many people are foregoing the traditional wedding cake in favor of cupcake wedding cakes as the tasty sweet treat on their special day.

Elaine thinks it is mainly down to pricing that couples are choosing cupcakes as their wedding cakes. As well as costing less, cupcakes are very interesting and look absolutely gorgeous. Also in favour of cupcakes is they are much less messy than standard wedding cake, and they are easy to prepare for guests to take away. It is also easy to arrange and order for the exact number of wedding cakes to suit the size of your guest list.

Just like with the traditional wedding cake, you can choose exactly how you would like your cupcakes to look to match the theme and colour of your wedding.

Not only are cupcakes becoming the cake of choice at many London weddings, people are also choosing them for other celebrations such as christenings and birthdays. Just like with the wedding, cupcakes for a birthday celebration will usually work out cheaper in price, they are less messy, look great and are convenient - particularly when it comes to children's birthday parties.

Another advantage, claims Elaine is that cupcakes are much easier to transport. “One time I was delivering a wedding cake to reception hall 10 miles from my home," says Elaine. “It was a very hot day and I was stuck in traffic for well over an hour. While I would not go as far to say that the cake was ruined when I arrived at the reception, it certainly did not look as good as when I started out. When delivering cupcakes I can arrange them in picnic refrigerated boxes, and I know they're going to look as good when the guests lay eyes on them as they did when they left my kitchen.”

She also noted that as cupcakes are so easy to transport, many guests choose to pick them up rather than using her delivery service. This allows them to further save on costs.

If you're on a budget, Elaine definitely recommends choosing cupcakes over a traditional cake. Not only are you more likely to stay within budget, but everyone will love the gimmick of having an individual cupcake. They bring a lot of fun to any event, and are much less stressful for the organisers. On request, Elaine arranges her wedding cupcakes on a tiered platform, to give the same amazing first impression as you get with a traditional wedding cake.
