Please suggest to your experts and consultants that the locations published by JAC for the pings received by the Towed Pinger Locator(TPL) and Ocean Shield may be the positions of the TPL when it received the acoustic events and not the position(s) of the source(s) of the signal(s).
THE TPL has a detection Range of about 2 miles (3.2 km) and so each position is the centre of a 3.2 km disk containing a possible position for the source. The 4 events obtained to ddate may lie within the 4 disks. The most likely position is where these disks are closest to each other. This results in an even smaller area where the 'black boxes' might be found.
