This iReport is part of an assignment:
    In praise of “other mothers”

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     Trish Deeley-Maynes referred to Trudy as "Momma" for as long as she can remember. Trudy was the mother of Maynes's three half-sisters and always treated Maynes and her sister Jill as though they were her own daughters. "Momma had a big heart and she saw our biological mother was absent," she said. "She likely just wanted to fill that void for us."

Maynes says that her biological mother left when she was a year old and was in and out of her and her sister's life until she was 12. "She struggled with addiction and passed away three years ago," she said.

One of the greatest things Maynes learned from Momma was to always look for the good in people, she says. "She never judged anyone. She was strong as heck, too."

"Momma had many health problems before her cancer diagnonsis. I watched her fight through treatment with very little complaints."
    Verybecoming, CNN iReport producer

I have 4 sisters. 3 of which have a different mother, her name was Trudy(momma). Even though biologically she wasn't my real mom it never made a difference to her or me. When she took my older sister's on weekends or whenever even though she didn't have to, she also took my sister jill&I. She treated me like her own and never any different. Anytime i needed her just to listen without judgement she would, she accepted everyone for who they were. Which these days is hard to come by. she truly had a heart of gold. My biological mother and I weren't as close so in alot of ways she filled the void. 3 years ago my biological mom passed away, and a few months later momma Trudy was diagnosed with lung cancer. She fought through the treatments and actually beat cancer, i know she fought hard in part because she knew i needed her. Momma was the example of strength and taught me how to be strong. On March 19th she passed away after she had an embolic stroke in her brainstem, me and my sisters were all by her side as she took her last breath. I miss her dearly and she could never be replaced. But i can sense her still when i'm feeling like giving up she is there telling me to fight on. Momma was selfless in every way, and I don't know if i could have gotten through alot of things without her example and guidance.
