    In praise of “other mothers”

    She saved our lives

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     Acuster91 and her older sister Krystina were adopted at a very young age by their mother Tangee. "I was 18 months and my sister was three," she said. "We were tossed around from family to family and left on street corners" before they were adopted.

One of the greatest lessons Tangee taught her, she says, is how to be selfless. "She will literally do anything for anyone. She doesn't have money or a nice car, but she will give her last $10 and her car if you needed it," she said.
    - Verybecoming, CNN iReport producer

Words will never describe how thankful I am to my "mother." My birth parents were horrible people. They didn't feed us, didn't cloth us, and were always giving us away. Once, they even left me and my sister in front of a daycare with a note pinned to our backs. My adoptive mother and father saved our lives. They were young, and didn't have to do it, but they did. They took in 2 little girls with no hesitation and sacrificed their young years. It didn't come easy. Due to all of our abuse, we were very hard to raise. She never gave up on us. My mother and father are amazing people who deserve to be recognized for everything they've done for us. They aren't just my parents, they are my best friends, and my heroes. Without them, who knows if I would have survived another day of starvation, abuse, and "parents" who were to busy doing drugs and stealing to care about me. Thank you Mom and Dad! I love you guys so much. I mean it when I say you saved our lives. She isn't my "other mother" she is my ONLY mother.
