Annual Tulip Fest Blooms North of Seattle

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     Steve Shay told me, 'Even though the tulip fields, and the roads and highways leading to them, get very crowded on weekends, the tulips, with their bright colors and sheer vastness, still are able to offer me an intimate, personal experience. '
    - hhanks, CNN iReport producer

Thousands are now converging throughout the month of April to the 31st Annual Skagit Valley Tulip Festival, in Skagit County, Washington, 65 miles north of Seattle. Multi-acre patches of vivid reds, yellows, oranges and purples blanket roadside farmland operated by tulip growers there. Motorists share crowded two-lane rural roads with bicycle riders peddling past the petals.

Weather decides when blooms look their best, but different areas and bulbs bloom at slightly different times promising the visitor a colorful array over the span of several weekends.

Signs posted in the gardens warn visitors not to walk between the rows and rows of color. Still, many can't resist and gently tiptoe through the tulips for a selfie or family photo.
