    Gregory Family Photo

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     mokulua, back row, far right, was the oldest of 14 children and says they were (and remain) a generally happy family, "though there was some friction with Dad in the late 60’s over boys with very long hair and hippie clothing."
    - dsashin, CNN iReport producer

David Gregory (tallest in back row) with his parents and 13 siblings in this family photo from the late 60's. Our family ranged from hippies (the 3 eldest boys) to Beatle wannabees (the 6 youngest boys) with 5 always-fashionable "mod" girls. Our conservative Catholic parents somehow managed to navigate through the changing times and keep us a loving family unit.

David says: "In 1969 I dropped out of architecture school at the University of Illinois, joined a "back to the land" commune that also ran a natural foods store in Urbana, participated in civil rights and anti-war marches, experimented with pshchedelics, and hitchiked to San Francisco to see Haight-Ashbury firsthand.  My fashion favorite was a pair of levis that had colorful patches sewn all over, a white peasant shirt, and a piece of rope for a belt."
