Major Advantages and Disadvantages of Iron Roofing

CCorrugated iron roofing needs no introduction. It is one of the oldest and most popular kinds of roofing and has tremendous benefits. Architects in Pakistan usually give a green signal when asked about installing galvanized, rigged iron roofs. But, like every material, iron also has its share of disadvantages, here we will go through the major advantages and disadvantages of having iron roofs:

    • Durability:

No one can deny the durability of iron. This strong metal can fight against time and last for years without losing its strength. Undoubtedly, iron roofing serves to be a great investment because of its long life.

    • Weather resistant:

Iron is long lasting and strong. In conditions where a shingled roof would fall weak, iron roof could stay intact for years. It can withstand heavy rains, hail storms and severe weather conditions without showing any signs of weakness.

    • Fire resistant:

Another huge advantage of iron roofs is that they are resistant to fire. Being strong and having a very high melting point, iron roofs can withstand house fires as compared to other kinds of roofs - especially the wooden roofs.

    • Home insulation:

One reason why architects from famous architecture companies in Pakistan suggest installing galvanized iron roofing is that it provides insulation. For people living in cities like Lahore, where the scorching sunrays fall during summer, iron roofs can be very beneficial. The roof reflects off sunrays and prevents them from entering the house. Since sunlight is mainly responsible for warming the house, iron roof keeps the house cool during summers.

    • Cheap:

Considering the advantages iron roof offers, it is very cheap and affordable as compared to other kinds of roofs. Iron roofs are affordable by an average person in Pakistan, which is another reason why they are preferred over other kinds of roofs.

Despite having so many advantages, iron roofs also have disadvantages like:

    • Rust and corrosion:

Good quality, galvanized iron roofs can withstand rust, but not all iron roofs are of good quality. Most iron roofs are prone to moisture retention and rust formation. In areas where there is a lot of rainfall, installing iron roofs is not a good idea.

    • Noise:

Iron roof can be very noisy and annoying. During rainy season, the sound of rain against metal can be very disturbing.

The above mentioned advantages and disadvantages of iron roofs, as described by famous Architecture companies in Pakistan should be carefully considered, before installing these roofs.
