Stock Up on Dietary Supplements for Spring

Who doesn’t love spring? It’s that time of the year when the winter gloom begins to lift. Days start to get warmer. The sun starts to shine stronger. Flowers begin to bloom and the world becomes a riot of colors. Spring is the season when the outdoors start to beckon. Spring is the season of new beginnings. Spring is the season for relaxation and rejuvenation.

Spring is everything you love…well, almost, unless you’re a big fan of stuffy nose and watery eyes because when spring is in, so are a number of seasonal allergies that make the beautiful warm days a tad uncomfortable.

The warm weather, as welcome as it is after the bone-chilling cold, is accompanied by a spike in allergen levels. From tree pollen to grass and weeds, the warm air is unfortunately full of triggers that can cause an allergic reaction.

If you’re a supplement business owner, your customers will be looking out for products that can not only help with their allergies but address a whole range of spring-related health issues.

How can I Reduce My Spring Allergies?

Before you can think about reducing your spring allergies, it’s important to recognize the symptoms. According to the American Academy of Allergy Asthma and Immunology(AAAAI), symptoms of seasonal allergic rhinitis or hay fever include:

    • Itching in the nose, roof of the mouth, throat, and eyes
    • Runny nose
    • Stuffy nose
    • Sneezing
    • Teary eyes
    • Under eye dark circles

If you begin to show any or all of these symptoms as spring sets in, it’s time to head for the local pharmacy to stock up on supplements because you’ve been allerg-ied! My feeble attempt at playing on words notwithstanding, it’s important to heed caution as spring allergies are concerned because they can literally wreak havoc on the quality of your life.

So, what should you do? Well, simple things like having your doctor give you an allergy test to determine the specific triggers that cause an allergic reaction in you can help. Once you know your allergy triggers, avoiding them by limiting outdoor activities, keeping your windows closed at all times, and taking a shower after you come back home from outside is the best way to reduce symptoms.

You may not have much of an outdoor spring, but at least you won’t be sneezing your head off all the time. In case your allergies get the better of you, there are plenty of products you can buy that can provide relief like lozenges, nasal sprays, and eyedrops.

What does spring mean for supplement manufacturers?

Spring is the perfect time for supplement manufacturers to extend their product line to add anti-allergy supplements. The health conscious American consumer is likely to be more receptive to supplements made from natural ingredients that may prevent allergic reactions or alleviate symptoms. These ingredients include Vitamin C, N-acetyl cysteine (NAC), nettle, lycopene, magnesium, quercetin, glucomannan, licorice root, pinebark and butterbur extracts.

According toNutricap Labs, a New York-based supplement manufacturer, there are three specific trends you should watch out for and take advantage of this spring:

    1. People tend to spend more time on outdoor activities in warmer weather. As a supplement business owner, you may want to work with your manufacturer to produce pre and post workout supplements and bone and joint supplement to help your customers maintain their energized lifestyle and achieve optimum levels of performance.
    2. Typically, the spring season is accompanied by an overwhelming urge to shed the extra pounds that people usually pile on during the winter holiday season. Your supplement manufacturer can work with you to create a line of weight loss supplements that include fat burners, appetite suppressants, herbal powders, etc.
    3. Just like we spring clean our homes, many people like to cleanse their bodies of all the toxins during this time of year. While adding fresh produce like seasonal fruits and vegetables in their diet can work wonders, what may also help are detox products such as pre- and probiotic supplements, digestive aids and liver supplements.

Spring is one of the most enjoyable seasons of the year for many people. Providing them with supplement products formulated with the intent to make them feel their very best plays a key role in that!
