    Hyundai Sonata refresh adds features and style for 2015


    For 2015, Hyundai is joining the likes of Toyota and Chrysler with a brand new design for its midsize Sonata sedan. Sales peaked for the current generation Hyundai Sonata in 2012 at 230k units, and with this updated car Hyundai hopes to once again hit that number.

    The new design is less shapely than the outgoing model, and in exchange has a sportier appearance. The engine choices remain the same, with a 2.4 liter and 2.0 turbo being the main options, with a hybrid version likely to follow. The new model was shown at the New York Auto Show in a dark orange color with grey accents, which help accentuate the new car’s styling.

    Hyundai has lost market share in the midsize sedan segment over the last few years, as competition from Ford, Nissan, Honda and Toyota remains fierce. The Elantra has passed up the Sonata as the bestselling Hyundai model as well, which was never Hyundai’s intention, and is a fact they wish to reverse.

    The 2015 Sonata is full of new features that should keep buyers interested, however. Apple’s new CarPlay system will be offered, which allows seamless iPhone connectivity in the car for maps, calls, music and messages. A ‘smart trunk’ system will also be available, as seen on the new Genesis, which pops the trunk if the key holder has been standing near it for more than three seconds.
