    Locate Pinger

General Aviation aircraft are often equipped with an "Automatic Direction Finder" (ADF). This device points at a station transmitting a signal. (If the station is directly ahead of you, the needle points forward; if you turn right, the needle swings to the left.) Why isn't this simple concept applied to locating ELTs or recorder pingers? It seems like a simple way to locate lost aircraft.
