Mostly uninhabited by humans, the Galapagos off the coast of Ecuador remain a pure natural habitat for many types of wildlife. A local licensed naturalist is required to accompany all travelers at all times and the numbers of tourists are kept fairly low each year. There are no real predators of the animals on the islands and they have become accustomed to the relatively small numbers of human visitors each year so up close and personal interaction is the norm.
