Scholarships for Cruise With A Purpose

Dr. Linda Amerson, world reknown board certified Trichologist, is hosting her 2nd Cruise With a Purpose for alopecia awareness, September 28-October 5, 2014! Alopecia affects over 80 million Americans of all ethnicities. Children and teenagers struggle with alopecia and in various ways. She is giving 2 scholarships to two young ladies who suffer with alopecia. The 2014 winners are Sanah Jivani and Mayaah Peppers! Both young ladies wrote a heart felt essay on the topic: “I have Alopecia, But it does Not Define Who I Am.” Both will win a free cruise along with one parent.
The 1st Cruise With A Purpose was held in September 2012, and was a tremendous success! The alopecia scholarship winner was Cayla Staples. Her essay topic was: “How Alopecia Affected My Life.” Both she and her mother received a free cruise. Her father did not want to be left out, so he also attended. Cayla read her winning essay during the Awards Night Event. She was presented an Award as the 1st Alopecia Essay Winner!
Cayla shared this after the Cruise, “Somebody once told me “Alopecia isn’t you, it’s happening to you; you are Cayla Nicole Staples not Alopecia”. So because of that I have a little more confidence than usual because she was right and those words were the most helpful words that I’ve ever heard since this journey. In school, I finally got the courage to tell some of my classmates abut Alopecia. In my AVID class, my teacher told us that we were going to do a passion project, where you pick something that you are passionate about and want people to know about. I decided my passion would be to make my class aware of Alopecia. During my presentation, I was able to answer questions and tell the class that I had alopecia. I was so happy to get that off of my chest. I have even done an interview (Television) and photos shoot for Encore HD Hair Magazine. Because of that, even more people ask me about my condition. I believe that maybe if I make people aware, they won’t be afraid, think I am sick, or just stare so much. So how has alopecia affected my life? It’s taking me on a Journey of Wisdom...and Courage. This journey is so hard sometimes, but even though I have really hard days, I keep trying to stick with the journey, knowing that things will get better.”
We also receive this feedback from one of our guests Marvette Snarley from Chicago, ILL: “When I learned that I was going on a cruise to help spread alopecia awareness, I expected long lectures and interaction with people I’d barely get to know. What I got was a loving group of people who’d all gathered to show support for a young girl and many others like her. Dr. Amerson provided us with very enlightening information about Alopecia—types, causes, treatments & overall knowledge on how to keep a healthy scalp. And though the cruise itself was a fantastic experience, my favorite part was getting to know our exceptional essay contest winner, Ms. Cayla Staples. Her uplifting spirit & confidence in all that she’s experienced inspired me to seek the beauty in myself when things get rough. It was truly an unforgettable event!”
Dr. Amerson wrote and performed an ice breaker theme song-Cruise With A Purpose. It was an instant success! So in 2013, Dr. Amerson connected with world reknown music producer Victor Clark, resulting in the official recording of the theme song! The video will be released soon!
Dr. Amerson is the host of Ask the Hair & Scalp Doctor Radio Show, which airs every Wednesday @ 11am CST on www.DfwiRadio.com.
