Easter starts after 'Black Veil' removed

In Pampanga, Philippines, we have a unique way of celebrating Easter. On a catholic procession, two carrozzas are prepared — One carrying the image of a 'rise' Jesus, while the other one carries an image of Mary covered with black veil. The two carrozas are separated from each other; all men must join the procession of the rises Jesus, while all women join the procession Mary.

The two carrozas will meet in the middle of the village or in front of the church where they are greeted by children dressed in angel costumes. They will sing and dance a special song composed for the event. After the song, the lead 'angel' will remove the black veil on Mary's image.

This marks the start of Easter in the province.
