Your Italian Fix is Right Around the Corner, Piero's Corner

Jumbo shrimp sautéed with garlic, olive oil, parsley and fresh tomato splashed with white wine and cream sauce, angel hair. A brick oven pizzetta with basil pesto, mozzarella, arugula. A dozen fresh little neck clams simmered in white wine, a touch of tomato and parsley, tossed with al dente linguine. These are a few of the many plates Piero's Corner in Herndon, Virginia has to offer.

With Executive Chef Gian Piero Mazzi in the kitchen, the family-owned restaurant has been in business for ten years. It is a comfortable neighborhood restaurant where Rachel, the bartender since the restaurant first opened, has your drink is ready before you sit down. The Piero's Corner team stays well-connected to their guests, adding to the homey environment of the restaurant.

Gian Piero's culinary career began in La Spezia, a small city in the Liguria Region of Italy. Although his parents wanted him to become a lawyer or doctor, his mother’s passion for food and good eating led him to school in Florence.

In search of further challenges, he traveled to the United States where he worked with Chefs Roberto Donna and Todd Grey at Galileo and assisted Dante Boccuzzi with the grand opening of the Silks Mandarin in San Francisco. Subsequently, Chef Mazzi served as the Executive Chef at Morrison House, a highly acclaimed four-star restaurant in Arlington, Virginia.

With Chef Mazzi’s success in the culinary world, it was only natural to assume he would strike out on his own to create something special. He opened Piero's Corner Risorante Italiano when he met his wife, Camela.

His sister, Roberta, works at a culinary school in La Spezia, Italy. By keeping in contact with her, Gian Piero is able keep his restaurant current and full of Italian flavor. She often lends him ideas and inspiration for new items to add to the menu or as a specialty.
