Carrie is a 2014 American supernatural horror Film. It is the third film adaptation of Stephen King’s 1947 novel of the same name. Produced by Kevin Misher and directed by Kimberly Peirce it runs for 99 minutes. The main role is played by Chloe Grace Moretz as Carrie white and Julianne Moore as Carrie’s mother Margaret White
Carrie is a story of a young girl of 16 year old who studies in high school and is bullied by her peers in school. The film is set in Chamberlaine Maine. Margaret White (Julianne Moore), Carrie’s mother is a deeply religious woman who is also separated from her husband. After giving birth to a baby girl she wants to kill the infant as she thinks her daughter is a product of sin. But then she changes her mind and the child grows into an adolescent.
Carrie is an introvert young, shy and unassertive girl. While showering after gym class at school, Carrie experiences her first menstrual period, naively thinks she is bleeding to death. The other girls in school laugh and tease her. The bully of the college Chris Hargensen (Portia Doubleday) records the events on her smart phone and uploads it on You Tube. Chris is suspended and banned from prom for harassing Carrie. So she plans to take revenge on Carrie.
The supporting cast is very good. Sue is well played by (Gabriella Wilde) a girl who regret teasing Carrie in the shower room.Tommy Ross (Ansel Elgort) who played Carrie‘s boyfriend over reacts in some scenes. The screenplay is very well written by Lawrence D. Cohen and Robert Aquirre Sacasa. The background music given by Marco Beltrami is very nice .It goes with the horror theme; if audience watch it in the theatre they will be horrified. The title of the movie is justified because the movie revolves around the protagonist, Carrie.
The shoots of the film is very well taken, which heightens the horror theme of the movie. Cinematography is very well done by Steve Yedlin. The editing of the movie is done by Lee Percy. This movie is made with a budget of 30 million US dollars.
There is a undertone of romantic comedy association in the film when Carrie seems to be bonding somewhat excessively with a football player who takes her under his wing at prom. Kimberley Pierce give a supernatural theme to the film when Carrie realise she possesses telekinetic powers and when her fellow students finally push her over the edge, she takes bloody, bloody revenge.
Carrie played by Grace Moretz, is miscast. In some scenes, like when her friend bullies her expression is very nice. But in some she is not convincingly enough to express her. She is simply much too pretty to be Carrie. Julianne Moore as a Carrie’s mother is convincing enough. She played her role very well as a mother who beats her daughter and locks her in cupboard. I will give it 2 stars out of five. This Carrie remake is a lazy, badly made replica of the classic movie. But if one watches it as an original movie then it is an average movie which has all the flavours of romantic, comedy and supernatural theme.
