    Make every day Earth Day by recycling better and smarter: waste management experts tell us how

    Thanks to a growing national effort in support of environmental conservation, recycling these days is easier than ever. But even as it becomes increasingly convenient, recycling can still be confusing for some consumers—and recycling “wrong” can cause complicated hang-ups at the recycling plant. In this interview, the National Waste & Recycling Association’s Anne M. Germain and Sharon H. Kneiss expose some of the most widespread myths when it comes to recycling. They explain the most essential do’s and don’ts, especially those concerning proper disposal of items you might not expect and reveal some surprising items that should not be recycled. Finally, they share some resources that are making recycling in our communities even more effective and consumer friendly.

    Sharon H. Kneiss is the president and CEO of the National Waste & Recycling Association, which represents private waste and recycling companies. She served as vice president, products division with the American Chemistry Council. She also served as a public spokesperson on critical issues before Congress and high-profile media.

    Anne M. Germain, director of waste and recycling technology serves as the association’s technical expert on waste management and recycling. Germain also served as the engineering and technology chief for the Delaware Solid Waste Authority, the international president of the Solid Waste Association of North America and served on the editorial advisory board of MSW Management: The Journal for Municipal Solid Waste Professionals.
