Life Along The Tracks In Baku’s ‘Shanghai’

In 2015 Azerbaijan will host the European Olympic Games. However, about 500 meters away from the in the games’ area, since for more than 20 years, next to “Shafa” stadium, approximately 3000 families settled in a settlement called “Shanghai” live in an everyday danger. They have to live in between trains. They take all the difficulties for the sake of the future of their children.

Despite the danger, people have to live there, since there is no other place for them to live in. And despite the issue by the authorities on their re-settlement nothing has done in this regard.

According to residents, 22 children died while playing on the train rails in the past 10 years, as there is no playground for children.
