Photo taken in 2011 on the beach at 59th Street in Ocean City, NJ. The old 59th Street fishing pier stood up to the slamming waves for nearly a century, although for most of those years, it served only as a landmark and a backdrop for photography. It was closed for safety reasons while it was still in private hands, and ended up as city property. Over the decades, there was never enough support to rebuild the pier, or enough to finally tear it down. In 2013, Hurricane Sandy had the final say and the pier exists now only in our wonderful memories.
