Record Breaking Lightning Strikes in Pensacola Florida

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     JamesAmerson shot these photos Tuesday night as the storm approached, from his home in Garcon Point, Florida, overlooking Escambia Bay. "I have seen tons of lightning storms out there, but nothing like this. It was something you would see in a sci-fi film. I kept expecting to see the mother ship appear out of the clouds!"
    - dsashin, CNN iReport producer

Upwards to 5,000 lightning strikes per hour and at one point a record breaking 6,000 strikes within 15 minutes. A grand total of over 70,000 and these a just a few images I captured right from my front porch. I live in an area near Pensacola, Fl. called Garcon Point. My home faces Escambia Bay and has a great view of the east side of Pensacola. These images where taken in just a few short minutes as the storm approached near 9 p.m. and then lasted until 4 a.m.. Dumping nearly 24 inches of water between April 29th and 30th, 2014.
