Elk rescue in South West Montana

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     Pgdaigle filmed a group of locals rescuing an elk out of a frozen patch of icy water in Hebgen Lake, which is located in Southwest Montana, on May 3. He says the elk fell through a weak part of the ice. He was the first person to notice the elk in the water. Since was he a lot lighter in weight, he felt confident enough to walk on the ice towards the animal. ‘Realizing we could reach her, ropes were sourced and a gentleman with a life vest, ladder, and a hardness worked his way out to the animal,’ he explained. Once they got the elk out of the water, they guided it back towards the forest with a ladder so that it would not run back onto the frozen lake.
    - Jareen, CNN iReport producer

Locals rescue a cow elk that fell through the ice on Hebgen lake. The ice is still very thick, except for some holes caused by underwater springs, which ultimately cannot be detected by the elk. This allowed a few people to get close enough to place a rope around her neck and to pull her up on the ice!!
