Wilson Kipsang to promote Wizz Air Skopje Marathon 2014, biggest announced ever in Macedonia
The bronze medalist of 2012 Summer Olympics and the person to hold the world record in marathon, Wilson Kipsang, will promote the 10th Wizz Air Skopje Marathon, traditionally held each year, taking place on May 11, 2014.
This charity event includes a 5 km-race, a half marathon and a 42,195 km long race. The marathon is organized by the Sport Union of Skopje together with Athletic federation of Macedonia, while the low-cost airline Wizz Air is sponsoring the event.
Skopje Marathon was announced with the so-called "Women marathon" when hundreds of women run to show support of the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace, but also to encourage women to fight illnesses by active sporting.
EU Ambassador in Macedonia Aivo Orav said he was pleased that the Wizz Air Skopje Marathon is organized on Europe Day, adding that sporting events generate collective values, like team spirit, solidarity, fair play and tolerance.
Mayor of Skopje Koce Trajanovski said the marathon has a cultural, economic and touristic dimension for the city. He urged all citizens to cheer and root for the brave athletes and recreational sportsmen.
Organizers expect a record number of over 5000 applicants that recreationally do sports, love sports or just want to try the excitement of running a marathon race. They also emphasize that this year's edition of Wizz Air Skopje Marathon 2014 will be the biggest ever held in Macedonia.
The presence of a star of world caliber, the massive interest, and the charity side of this year's Wizz Air Skopje Marathon is only confirming the rank of this international event that slowly but surely overcome other held in the region, but also on a global level.
