"Good Sam" Novel inspires real life Good Samaritans

Good Sam is an award-winning novel being published in June 2014 about an anonymous Good Samaritan (aka Good Sam) who leaves $100K in cash on strangers front porches throughout Los Angeles. But the author, Dete Meserve, never expected that the book would put her in touch with several real life Good Sams who are doing anonymous acts of kindness across the nation.

The novel follows TV news reporter Kate Bradley who covers murders, disasters, and tragedy for Los Angeles news. When she is assigned to cover a story about ten people who have each found $100,000 in cash on their front porch, Kate unravels the powerful reason behind the mysterious cash gifts.

As early buzz about the novel has traveled around social media, writer Meserve has been introduced to several real-life Good Sams who may not be giving away $100K in cash but are regularly performing extraordinary acts of kindness around the country. And now these Good Sams are traveling to Los Angeles to be honored at the Book Launch of "Good Sam."

Cathy O'Grady of Boston performed 318 Acts of Kindness in memory of a friend's husband who passed away after 318 days fighting cancer. Cathy left anonymous gifts for the homeless on park benches and made special kits for the staff at a local hospital. Daniel Smith in Provo, Utah spent a month doing acts of kindness after losing his job.

Author Meserve says she hears about Good Sams nearly "every day" and posts stories about them on her Facebook page: www.facebook.com/GoodSamBook. But O'Grady and Smith are special because "they've made being a Good Sam a daily pursuit."

O'Grady and Smith will receive special honors at the Good Sam Book Launch event in Downtown Los Angeles. Meserve has assembled a group of anonymous Good Sams who are donating cash so that O'Grady and Smith can continue their acts of kindness throughout the year. One Good Sam inspires another!
