RAB abducts Benapole mayor
Benapole panel mayor, two others went missing in Jessore

Salma Akhter, wife of disappeared Benapole Municipality panel mayor, Tariqul Islam Tuhin claimed that her husband was kidnapped by members of the elite force Rapid Action Battalion on way to Jessore. ‘ RAB men came to our residence and used obscene words towards us few days before he (Tuhin) was abducted’, Salma added.
‘ Tuhin has been disappeared since 11:36 am on March 7, 2013 after getting out from NAAM flat residence of lawmaker Sheikh Afil Uddin,’ Salma told New Age on Sunday, ‘ I talked to him last at 9:17 when he told me that he was coming to Benapole by second flight. But he did not come back since then’.
Salma Also said Tuhin was abducted allegedly by the Rapid Action Battalion men on way to Dhaka Airport. ‘The activities of RAB made me suspicious,’ she further said.
Three young men including the panel mayor of Benapole Municipality, Tariqul Islam Tuhin have been traceless for a long. The law enforcement agency men are also in dark about their whereabouts, too.
The two other missing youths are Sohel Ahmed Roni, 30, a son of M Alauddin, president; ward number 5 unit Bangladesh Nationalist Party under Chaugachha upazila and Habibur Rahman Saimum, 35, son of Golam Mostafa of Chandutia village under Jessore sadar upazila.
Tariqul Islam Tuhin, panel mayor, Benapole Municipality and also former president, Sharsha upazila unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League, student wing of the ruling party has been missing for over a year.
Tuhin’s wife told New Age that a case was lodged with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station, Dhaka after the abduction. It was shifted to the detective branch later. ‘But no progress is seen’, she added.
Shahin Alam, brother of the panel mayor, told journalists that his younger brother Tuhin’s wife Salma Akhter has been leading unhappy life along with a male child of one year and one month.
Sohel Ahmed Roni, 30, a son of M Alauddin, president, ward number 5 unit Bangladesh Nationalist Party under Chaugachha upazila and also an employee of Chaugachha Fashion Limited have been missing since May 7 while another youth Habibur Rahman Saimum, 35, son of Golam Mostafa of Chandutia village under Jessore sadar upazila has been traceless from May 3.
While contacted, Major Md Masudur Rahman, camp in-charge, Jessore camp, RAB- 6 said to New Age, ‘RAB men are being accused after happening something now-a-days. RAB did not do the act.’ ‘I do not know what happened at that time in the name of RAB. No complaint was raised at that time, too’, he added.
While asked about RAB’s operation at the residence of Tuhin, the RAB official suggested to talk to its commanding officer, Khulna, Lieutenant Colonel Enamul Arif. But he did respond New Age’s phone.
‘We express our sympathy to his family and want to help them if they proceed to us’, the RAB camp in-charge further said.
Locals and relatives of Sohel Ahmed Roni told journalists that Roni went missing since 7th May, 2014. He talked to his cousin Joni after going missing on the mobile phone for a few moments. During the conversation he was telling the abductors that he was not Ashim but Roni. His cousin Ashim is general secretary, Chaugachha upazila unit Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, student wing of BNP.
Roni’s father M Alauddin told that being informed Akram Hossain, officer in-charge; Chaugachha police station visited their residence. He (OC) told Roni’s father that law enforcement men did not arrest him.
Reshma Sharmin, assistant superintendent of police, Jessore told New Age that Roni was seen at Magpie Hotel area in Jessore town on the evening of abduction.
Relatives of Saimum told newsmen that he could be abducted Md Jahangir, office assistant, Jessore Government MM College as Saimum demand Tk 14, 00000 back for failing to provide some aspirants to provide into job. ‘The police arrested Saimum for locking in feud with Jahangir on April 21. The police freed him from the police station after a fruitful reconciliation,’ they added.
Ziluara Begum, mother of Saimum and Ikhtiaruddin, elder brother told journalists that Jahangir could kidnap Saimum.
Emdadul Haque Sheikh, officer in-charge, Kotwali police station told that the police arrested Jahangir in connection with the kidnapping.
On the other hand, the body of Nazmul Islam, president, Jhikargachha upazila unit Bangladesh Nationalist Party from a place at Shalna in Gazipur district day after he went missing. The young emerging BNP leader was abducted by some plain clothes men at Mohammadpur area in the capital at around 12:30am on December 15, 2011 on way to his Dhaka based residence.
Sabira Nazmul, newly elected Jhikargachha upazila chairman and also wife of late BNP leader Nazmul Islam filed a case with Mohammadpur police station December 21, 2011. The case number is 49. Later, the case was shifted to the detective branch (DB) for investigation. But no progress was observed, alleged Sabira.
Talking to New Age, Reshma Sharmin, assistant superintendent of police told New Age that the police were trying to find out the whereabouts of the missing youths.
While reached to Anisur Rahman, superintendent of police to know the development of the cases of Benapole panel mayor and BNP leader Nazmul Islam, he told New Age that both the incidents took place in Dhaka. #
