Using Aromatherapy Scents to Lose Weight

Reconciling the pulls of family life and pursuing a great career is certainly a challenge for most of us adults. But what complicates things further is that these things also rob us of our time to live healthily and get out to get some exercise. This is not always the case for some of us, but we can’t deny that the time we have for our career and loved ones occupy a chunk of our already busy schedule. And at times, we forget to take care of ourselves, resorting to instant meals or food for stress-relief, instead of sweating it out or taking a trip to your favorite day spa.
Fortunately for you, you can at least cheat your way out of it all to shed off the pounds and ease your stress. At least as long as you are exposed to essential oil vapors. According to a study conducted by researchers from the Niigata University in Japan, the smell of grapefruit and lemon oil can stimulate lypolysis or fat burning. The scent affects the sympathetic nerve activity in white adipose tissues, which in turn leads to lipolysis. As a result, you passively lose a few calories, helping you lose weight or maintain an ideal one.
The study, which appeared on the Journal of Experimental Biology and Medicine, also found that citrus flavors accomplish the same thing for a person. So, if you really want to lose weight more effectively, reinforce your weight loss goals by adding citrus fruits to your diet.
Dr. Alan Hirsch of The Smell and Taste Treatment and Research Institute of Chicago also found that inhaling certain scents throughout the day can suppress your desire for food. His research revealed that emotional states can influence our need for food, but using scents to make one feel full and curb one’s appetite is possible. To make one’s weight loss goals effective though, one should mix it up a bit and use different essential oils.
The Home Spa (http://homespashowerspray.com/) brand is top-of-mind when it comes to natural, aromatherapy scents. Home Spa Shower Sprays is available in four shower spray variants—tangerine, pink grapefruit, eucalyptus, and lavender. Simply add a couple pump sprays to the shower stream or to your bath water and you’re all good!
Another way of incorporating aromatherapy essential oils to your weight loss program is to use them as a massage oil. Kneading your body with essential oils soothes your skin, enhances blood circulation, and detoxifies your lymphatic system. When your body detoxifies, out comes toxins and excess water from it. Also a massage stimulates metabolism and lipolysis, allowing your body to burn off calories faster.
A little exercise goes a long way when you’re trying to maintain your weight. Don’t just wait for aromatherapy to work its wonders—get off your couch and hit the treadmill. If you don’t have access to one, you can always jog or fast-walk round the neighborhood to burn off some calories.
Portion control is also a surefire way to keep the weight off. Eat small meals and snacks throughout the day to speed up your metabolism and to stave off hunger. This way, you don’t overeat.
