'It's not normal to see temperatures at the beach that are hotter than in Death Valley'

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     sdtiburon told me, 'Impressed at how many first responders have continued their siege of the area. I've counted 40-50 trucks from as far away as Chula Vista and Orange County. Thanks to them and the air choppers as well as Mother Nature having some mercy upon us, as she's changed the wind direction to come from the west, which helps my neighborhood but doubles back from where it came.'

Photos from the beginning near my office of the Carlsbad and the three mile journey that took two hours as seven fires invaded our quiet and sleepy little beach town.
